……16 months after stepmother slain

Sixteen months after his stepmother was gunned down in San Fernando, businessman Steve Ghany Jr, 37, met a similar fate on Wednesday morning. But the circumstances were different.
Monica Ghany, 57, was killed during a drive-by shooting. While Steve was shot dead at his home by a very close female relative after a heated argument.
The drama unfolded around 10 am when Steve, the son of the late prominent businessman Steve Ghany Sr, was at his home at Alexander Street, Sumadh Gardens, Vistabella, when he got into an argument with the woman as he was about to leave his residence.
The woman reportedly took up Steve’s licensed firearm and fired at him, striking him. Steve fell to the ground and died. A report was made to the police who responded within minutes.
On arrival, police officers detained the woman and seized the firearm. Homicide Bureau Region 3 officers visited the scene and are trying to determine what really caused the fatal shooting.
On December 27, 2024, Steve’s stepmother, Monica Ghany, was shot dead after her vehicle came under heavy gunfire along Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, while her other son, Matthew, was wounded and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Investigations revealed that Monica and Matthew had just left the hospital where they had gone to visit her ailing husband, Steve Sr. No one was ever held for that murder.
This shooting took place a stone’s throw away from the San Fernando Municipal Police Headquarters.
Reports revealed that Monica and Matthew were travelling along Lady Hailes Avenue when, upon reaching the construction site of the new market, gunmen ambushed them and riddled their car with bullets. The front windscreen was shattered.
Matthew was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment, but Monica was pronounced dead at the scene.
