Two Venezuelan bandits held with firearms after Robbery

Quick action by officers of the Southern Division Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) on Wednesday night, resulted in the arrest of two Venezuelan bandits, shortly after a report of Robbery with Violence in the Princes Town district.

Reports indicate that a driver was plying his white Subaru for hire around 8:35 pm, on Wednesday 1st April, 2026, when he picked up five men posing as passengers along the Naparima Mayaro Road.

It is alleged that the men asked to be taken to Borde Narve and on reaching Inverness Road, one of them pulled out a gun and announced a robbery.

The driver was robbed of a cellular phone, a quantity of cash and his vehicle.

A report was made to the police and officers of the ERP intercepted the vehicle in the Ste Madeleine district shortly after.

One of the gunmen allegedly pointed a firearm and fired a shot in the direction of the officers, who, in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, returned fire in the direction of the suspects. No one was injured during the exchange.

Two male Venezuelan nationals, ages 22 and 24, were arrested, while the other three suspects escaped.

Two pistols were seized from the scene.

The Southern Division Task Force with the assistance of the Air Support Unit and other Units of the Division conducted extensive searches for the men, but without success.

Investigations are ongoing.
