Team Sunshine made its way to Grande Riviere last Saturday to play a 12-table – 121 bullseye match against Team Famalay.
The journey from Team Sunshine’s home base at the Palace in Five Rivers, Arouca started at 10:00 am and what a time it was for those who opted to travel in the maxi-taxi hired especially for the occasion.
It was non-stop ole talk and laughter throughout the entire three-hour trip so by the time the team arrived at Grand Riviere, everyone was in high spirits eager to begin and share some licks.
Upon arrival, players were offered a choice of chicken foot soup or corn soup that was most welcome.
The venue was fully prepared and ready for the match to start except for the late arrival of Famalay players who strolled in at various times, causing the match to start at 3:00 pm instead of the scheduled 2:00 pm.
From the onset, Team Sunshine dominated the game and it was therefore no surprise that at the half-time break, Team Sunshine was leading by twelve bullseyes 61/49 with Famalay leading 19/18 in Hang Jacks.
At the half time break, a meal fit for Sunday lunch – even though it was Saturday – was served. Vegetable rice, macaroni salad, pigeon peas, corn pie, provision pie with a choice of stew chicken or fish.
After partaking of the meal and before the start of the second half, both team captains met with their respective players to discuss strategy going forward.
Team Famalay showed tremendous character and prove to be worthy competitors but it was a case of too little too late.
The match ended 121/110 bullseyes in favour of Team Sunshine; however, Famalay maintained their supremacy in hang jacks, winning by 10 points at 51/41.
Immediately following the prize distribution, fish sandwiches were served and the long return journey then started for Team Sunshine with members reaching home midnight and after.
