Another loss for Cudjoe

People are saying former Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis will get the licking of her life when she goes up against Kelvon Morris in the internal elections on April 19 for leadership of the Tobago PNM Council.

People are saying that Cudjoe is best remembered for flaunting in the face of Tobagonians when she was the Member of Parliament for Tobago West, with her only claim to fame being her statement, “is we time now”, when the PNM had won the 2015 General Election.

Others remember her for the massive telephone bill she had imposed on the country on her first overseas trip. Cudjoe’s neglect of Tobago and Tobagonians accounted for her loss to a virtual unknown, TPP’s Joel Sampson 6604 to 6713 in the 2025 general Election.

Kelvin Morris

People are saying that while Cudjoe was carousing in Trinidad, Morris was the lone PNM Assemblyman in the THA where he served with distinction as Minority Leader after the PNM had lost the THA elections in Tobago 1/14 in 2021.

On January 12, 2026 Augustine’s Tobago People’s Party had a clean sweep in the THA elections winning 15/0 but Morris lost his seat in the Darrel Spring/Whim electoral district to TPP’s Ricky Joefield by a mere 12 votes (826/838).

People are saying that Cudjoe should do the honorable thing and withdraw her candidacy, leaving Morris unopposed.

2026 FIFA World Cup Final could be the most dangerous ever

People are saying that the 2026 World Cup Final involving 48 countries will not only be the most expensive ever, but potentially the most dangerous as the war in the Middle East enters its third week.

People are saying they have taken note of an article by Andy Hughes for LBC Crime headlined, ISIS encouraging ‘mass casualty’ terror attacks at FIFA World Cup 2026. In the article Hughes notes that the terror group has set out its priorities for attacking the West, naming the world’s most popular sports tournament as one of its main targets.

Tens of thousands of fans are preparing to travel to the US in three months’ time when the tournament is scheduled to kick off in June. (include the picture of the article here)

People are saying that the Iranian team has qualified for its fourth FIFA World Cup and is scheduled to play three matches in the first round – June 15 vs New Zealand in Los Angeles; June 21 vs Belgium again in Los Angeles; and on June 26 vs Egypt in Seattle.

The President of the Iranian Football Association said that Iran may withdraw from the competition and FIFA is standing by to fill that void should it occur.

People have taken note of President Donald Trump’s statement on the matter as reported by BBC Sport Journalist Emily Salley where Trump is quoted as saying that Iran’s men football team is “welcome” at the 2026 World Cup, but that it is not “appropriate” for them to be there “for their own life and safety”.

People are saying that even if Iran withdraws from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, consistent with comments made by its Minister of Sports and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, it does not make the event any safer. Suicide bombers are the norm for countries like Iran, and football fans and the US general public are aware of this.

People are saying that the restrictive US visa policy is affecting countries such as Senegal and that even in the CONCACAF Champions Cup US, visa denials have affected ten first team players in the Jamaican club Mount Pleasant which played against LA Galaxy in Los Angeles last Wednesday. As expected, without 10 of its frontline players, the Jamaican club lost the match 3-0.

Mayday! Mayday! Save us from rogue police indiscretions

PC Anand Dass

People are saying they are tired of reading of the number of excessive indiscretions unleashed on citizens by rogue police officers; seemingly with little or no concern from the Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, a former senior police officer.

The same of which could be said of the Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro; the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) or the Police Service Commission (PolSc).

People are saying that this has become the norm and not the exception and referring to two articles in the Daily Express of Wednesday 11 March 2026 which dealt with police indiscretions on the public and on one of its own officers.

In the first article Police Officer Anand Dass was wrongfully arrested and detained for four days in June 2021. High Court Judge Joan Charles ordered the state (really the taxpayers) to pay Dass $160,000 in damages in addition to interest and legal costs.

Justice Frank Seepersad

In the second article, High Court Judge Robin Mohammed ordered the state (taxpayers again) to pay $115,000 in damages to David Junior Fernando whose constitutional rights were breached after the police denied his attorneys access to him while he was being detained at the Cumuto Police Station.

People are saying they recall another indiscretion reported last week when another High Court Judge, Justice Quinlan-Williams awarded two women $512, 612.79 in damages when a search warrant used to raid their property was wrongfully and maliciously secured.

The public is also aware of High Court Judge Frank Seepersad’s rulings on various acts of police indiscretions and his advice that such police officers should held personally responsible.

Why are US troops still in Tobago? Much ado about nothing

The US Military troops are housed at the Grafton Hotel

People are saying that Opposition parties in Tobago that are demanding answers for the presence of US troops in Tobago are really just raising red herrings and it is really much ado about nothing

People are saying that the Opposition parties know that the presence of US troops in Tobago is a temporary measure, with the Prime Minster giving this assurance on several occasions.

THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has also said that the US troops will be leaving Tobago in a matter of days.

Augustine also assured that no directive had come from the THA or the government for there to be any restriction on citizens’ use of the Grafton hotel where the US troops are based.

People are saying that the US troops are contributing significantly to the economy of Tobago and they hope when they leave in the next few days the Opposition parties can find replacements to bring much needed foreign exchange to Tobago.

Other persons are saying that the Opposition parties in Tobago are just looking for relevance.
