Import Price Gouging

Unregistered Pharmaceuticals and Regulatory Inaction

Recent television interviews have highlighted that importers are doubling prices despite tax suspensions and that unregistered pharmaceutical products are circulating openly in the market.

These matters are not new, as the State already possesses the authority and information to enforce compliance.

In the past, Health and Consumer Affairs actively inspected retailers, seized unregistered products, and applied price control measures.

Today, these same issues are discussed publicly instead of being addressed decisively.

At a time of foreign exchange scarcity, rising unemployment, and escalating living costs, continued regulatory inaction encourages price gouging, threatens public health, and deepens economic strain.

I respectfully urge urgent enforcement, not commentary, to protect consumers and restore confidence.
