Registering with the Board of Inland Revenue

Cabinet of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, I wish to respectfully raise a concern regarding the requirement for senior citizens, particularly those in their 80s, to physically register with the Board of Inland Revenue and pay taxes on rental income from properties acquired through a lifetime of hard work and savings.

While we understand the importance of tax compliance, the financial and physical burden placed on elderly citizens, many of whom rely on modest rental income to meet rising living, medical, and maintenance expenses, seems disproportionate and lacking compassionate consideration.

I urge Cabinet to consider implementing age based relief measures, simplified or automatic registration processes, higher tax free rental thresholds for seniors, or alternative arrangements that reduce hardship while maintaining compliance, so that our elderly citizens can live their later years with dignity and security.
