As a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, I stand in full support of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for calling another State of Emergency.
Trinidad and Tobago faces organized criminal networks, prison based coordination, and gang violence. Police reports over recent years show high homicide figures and repeat offenders operating within communities. Public safety requires decisive executive action under the Constitution.
The State of Emergency follows constitutional provisions. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar acted through lawful authority and advised the President. Such action reflects responsibility to protect citizens when ordinary measures fail to contain escalating threats.
Zones of Special Operations form part of a structured security strategy. ZOSO legislation allows coordinated policing, social services, and sustained presence in high risk areas. Evidence from previous operations showed reduced shootings within designated zones and improved intelligence gathering.
The People’s National Movement opposition refuses support for ZOSO legislation. Penny Beckles and the PNM speak about rights while offering no workable security framework. Opposition without alternative policy weakens national resolve. Citizens deserve proposals grounded in data, not rhetoric.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar prioritizes national security. Leadership demands difficult decisions. Public office carries duty to safeguard lives first.
I choose support for firm lawful action over political obstruction. National interest requires unity behind measures designed to disrupt criminal networks and restore order.
Yours faithfully,
Curtis Anthony Obrady,
Arima
