Hazel Manning, widow of the late Prime Minister Patrick Manning, has jumped into the fray at the San Fernando East Constituency.
In an obvious support of her son, Brian Manning, the Member of Parliament for San Fernando East, Hazel has decided to throw her hat in the ring for the chairmanship of the constituency.
In a statement on Saturday, Hazel said:
“Over the last few months, I have observed the escalating turmoil and overwhelming concerns by the people of San Fernando East, regarding the conduct, reputation and business of some who represent us.

San Fernando East is a symbolic seat, not just for the legacy of Patrick Manning and the Manning family, but for the People’s National movement.
For decades I watched my husband, and now my son Brian Manning, walk every street, take note of every issue and make sacrifices to try to reach and represent every constituent.
Given the circumstances and following countless phone calls, in the interest of bringing peace to the constituency, tonight I formally agree to offer myself to serve in the position of chairman of the San Fernando East constituency.”
Four days ago, in a statement, Brian Manning said: “As your Member of Parliament, I am compelled to speak plainly about a matter of integrity that has caused deep concern among the membership of our constituency.
Over the past several months, in consultation after consultation following last year’s general election, our members have raised with me a series of troubling questions about governance within the San Fernando East constituency executive.
I have brought these concerns formally, and in writing, to the Party’s General Council. To date, they have not been addressed in a way that assures our members they will be examined independently and fairly.”
The People’s National Movement (PNM) responded which led to three persons, so far, resigning from the executive of the San Fernando East Constituency.
The bacchanal continues.
