We constantly hear what citizens must NOT do: don’t park here for cricket, don’t park around the Savannah for Independence celebrations, don’t enter this road, don’t stop there.
But where are the solutions?
If I am driving a $300,000 vehicle to a cricket match, where exactly am I expected to park safely and conveniently? If parking is prohibited around the Savannah, then provide a large, properly organised field for parking.
Why must thousands of people arrive at venues at the same time, creating traffic chaos for hours? Open the gates earlier. Encourage people to arrive early. Organise traffic properly and prevent the bottlenecks.
This is not rocket science. We do not need another consultant, another committee or millions of dollars in capital expenditure.
We need organisation, planning and execution.
If Trinidad and Tobago wants to become a first-world country, authorities must stop simply telling citizens what they cannot do and start telling us what we CAN do and where we CAN go.
First world conditions begin with getting the simple everyday things right.
