It was heartbreak for the Trinbago Knight Riders women at Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Thursday afternoon.
What seem at one time that the women were heading for an easy win in the WCPL final, quickly turned into disappointment. Batting for the first time in the tournament, Chedean Nation inflicted four huge sixes in a knock of 39 not out to beat the wind out of the Knight Riders and help the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a slim two-wicket win.
It was the first time in the five-year history of the competition that the Warriors were winning. The Knight Riders won in the first year in 2022 while the Barbados Tridents won in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Skipper Deandra Dottin won the toss and decided that her team, the Knight Riders would bat first. After their 20 overs, the Knight Riders reached 145 for six.
Chasing 146 for victory, the Warriors appeared to be in trouble at 71 for six in the 13th over. At that point, they needed 74 to win from 46 balls.
Nation, batting at number eight, turned the match around. She made an unbeaten 39 from 21 balls. Captain Chloe Tryon joined Nation and they launched a counter attack that swung the game back to the Warriors.
Nation took on Shikha Panday and Karishma Ramharack to score the winning runs, reaching 149 for eight. They won by two wickets. Dottin, Pandey, and Ramharack, each took two wickets.
Nation was named player of the match, while Shemaine Campbelle was named player of the series.
The loss for the Knight Riders added to the terrible tournament which the men’s team had. In ten matches, the men Knight Riders won only three to finish at the bottom of the seven-team tournament.
