One Injured as Crane collapses offshore
Contrary to earlier media reports that a worker died on a platform offshore, comes the news that he was only injured and would make a full recovery.
Perenco confirmed the detachment of a crane on its Samaan Alpha Drilling Platform, southeast coast of Trinidad, at 4 p.m on Wednesday.
The company said, “During routine lifting operations, the crane on the platform became detached from its pedestal. The emergency response team was immediately activated, and personnel aboard the platform and support vessels were mobilised to respond to the incident.”
Perenco said one person was injured but is resting and is expected to make full recovery. “One person sustained injuries and was stabilised before being evacuated to a medical facility onshore Trinidad accompanied by a company medic. The individual is resting and is expected to make a full recovery.
“The safety and well-being of all personnel remain a priority for Perenco.”
Perenco stated that all relevant regulatory authorities have been notified, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
Dr Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy, said Perenco informed the Ministry of the incident on Wednesday,
Dr Moonilal said the Ministry was advised that the crane operator was safely rescued and transported to shore for medical assessment and treatment.
“Additionally, Perenco advised that no other personnel on site was affected by the incident.”
