Speed the cause of 2 killed in Tobago crash

…….”4 die on the roads for the weekend”

 By FRANCIS JOSEPH

Police say speed was the cause of an accident on Sunday morning off the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago.

The victims were identified as Keyon Nimblett and Shacka Rivers. The fatal accident occurred off the Claude Noel Highway near Bacolet and John Dial.

Police responding to the accident say that the two persons died on the spot. They had to be removed from the mangled vehicle. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was proceeding at a fast rate when he ran off the road, according to an eye witness.

The death of the two men in Tobago brings to four the number of persons to die on the road for this weekend. Overall, 22 persons have died on the roads for 2026.

Musical artiste Marques “Rasta Marky” Figaro, 38, and former National Under-17 footballer, Tyrek James, 27, were killed on Saturday morning along the Southern Main Road, St Margaret’s.

Figaro and James, both of Marabella, died within minutes of the crash around 3.40 am. The driver, Denilson St Vincent, 25, remains hospitalized.

Police said St Vincent was driving a Nissan Almera south along the roadway when he allegedly swerved in an attempt to avoid roadworks being carried out by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) along the western lane. The vehicle crossed the roadway and slammed into a concrete and steel wall on the eastern side.
