A man who chopped two persons was later shot and killed by police after refusing to drop a cutlass.
The dead man was identified as Shivnath Jogie, of Old Train Line Road, Ste Madeline. Police said that Jogie died at the San Fernando General Hospital from gunshot injuries.
According to reports, police officers responded to a report around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday concerning a violent incident in which two persons were chopped and wounded.
Upon arrival, Jogie was reportedly armed with a cutlass and a hammer. Police said they attempted to engage him, but the situation escalated when he advanced towards the officers and attacked them.
The police officers discharged their weapons, wounding Jogie. He was later taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Jogie’s relatives have since claimed that the use of deadly force was unnecessary, stating that police did not have to shoot him in the head.
