…….Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis is the new PNM Political leader

Kelvon Morris who had spent four years as the lone PNM Member in the Tobago House Assembly (THA), thought he had the advantage of becoming the PNM Political leader in Tobago.
He was hoping to replace Ancil Dennis who stepped down after the PNM lost the recent THA elections 15-0. His challenger was former Sports Minister and Tobago West Member of Parliament, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis.
From a membership of about 10,000 in Tobago, just 2,000 voted on Sunday. In the end, Cudjoe-Lewis won and became the new political leader of the PNM Tobago.
After the election in Tobago on Sunday, Cudjoe-Lewis gained 1,220 votes while her opponent, Kelvon Morris gained 730 votes.
Following her victory, the former Tobago West Member of Parliament said the work would not be a walk in the park. She said her new post requires serious commitment and discipline. “I am ready,” she added.
She said the victory belonged to the grassroots as she ran a people-centred grassroots campaign. “It was about knocking doors and calling persons and having the intimate conversations that I am accustomed to having with them.”
This victory would place her on the executive of the PNM.
