……No arrests made

Three killings on the same street within one week!

Yes, that has happened on Emon Lane, Valencia.

The latest killing took place on Sunday night.

The victim, Keshawn Guy, who lived at both Emon Lane, Valencia, and Pinto Road, Arima, was attacked around 8.40 pm while approaching his home with his wife.

According to reports, a man approached Guy, who ran when he saw the assailant. The suspect gave chase and moments later loud explosions were heard. Guy’s wife later found him lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers from the Valencia Police Post responded and found Guy unresponsive. A District Medical Officer pronounced him dead at the scene. The suspect escaped.

Last Tuesday, Dexter Ferreira, 52, an employee of the Arima Borough Corporation, was shot dead by a gunman shortly after buying doubles at the corner of Emon Lane. One day earlier, Shaun Charles, 49, was killed in a separate shooting, while his wife was also shot and remains hospitalized.

No arrests have been made in these cases.

Residents said the killings have left the community on edge, with some noting that two of the victims were members of a mosque in the area. They are calling for increased police presence and action to restore a sense of safety.

Senior Supt Christopher Paponette, Head of the Eastern Division, told the media that the killings were linked to criminal conflicts.

He added, “Preliminary investigations and intelligence assessments indicate that these incidents are targeted and stem from identifiable conflicts and criminal dynamics involving persons of interest.

“There is no current intelligence to suggest that members of the general public are being indiscriminately targeted.

“The TTPS confirms that investigators have developed strong lines of enquiry and are actively pursuing identified persons of interest in connection with these matters.”

Paponette said the division will carry out targeted raid and search operations, sustained high-visibility patrols in and around Eamon Lane and other areas, and intelligence-led action against priority offenders.

He also said police are addressing the risk of retaliatory violence, with measures being introduced to protect vulnerable individuals.

Investigations are continuing.
