During the operation, police officers, acting on intelligence, proceeded to Mamoral No. 1 where they observed two persons inside a white Kia K2700 motor vehicle.
As officers approached the vehicle, a man exited and fled the area. Officers then approached a woman, aged 30, identified themselves as police officers, and made inquiries regarding the ownership of the vehicle.
The woman was informed of the intelligence received and the officers’ authority to conduct a search under Regulation 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026. She made certain utterances.
Due to poor lighting conditions and in the interest of officer safety, the vehicle was transported to the Chaguanas Police Station, where a detailed search was conducted in the presence of the woman.
During the search, officers discovered an AK-type rifle fitted with a folding metal stock, together with a magazine containing nineteen (19) rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were found concealed behind the driver’s seat.
As a result, the woman of Mamoral Main Road, Mamoral No. 1, was arrested for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. She remains in police custody as investigations continue.
