Four persons were charged with obscene language, disorderly behaviour, and resisting arrest, at the end of the launch of Lost Tribe band on Sunday morning at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) finally broke its silence on Tuesday afternoon to say that the four persons were charged.
According to a media release, police officers were on duty providing security at the event and monitoring compliance with the conditions of the event’s entertainment licence, which required the cessation of amplified dance hall music at 2 a.m.
Police officers engaged the event’s DJ prior to the stipulated time and reminded him of the licence conditions. At approximately 2 am, the DJ acknowledged the directive and ceased playing recorded music. Shortly thereafter, officers observed live musical performances continuing from members of the Silver Stars Steel orchestra. The officers engaged representatives of the performing groups in an effort to secure compliance with the licensing requirements.

During these interactions, several individuals allegedly became confrontational and verbally abusive towards police officers. The situation subsequently escalated, resulting in one police officer being physically assaulted while attempting to effect a lawful arrest.
The officer sustained injuries and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was medically examined and treated before being discharged.
As a result of the incident, four persons were arrested and subsequently charged on Monday with the following offences:
Obscene Language;
Disorderly Behaviour;
Resisting Arrest; and One of the four was additionally charged with assaulting a police officer.
The accused were granted station bail and released from the Belmont Police Station at 7.30 pm on Monday. They are expected to appear before the court on a date to be determined.
The TTPS thanks the many patrons and event organizers who continue to cooperate with officers and comply with licensing conditions. Members of the public are encouraged to respect lawful instructions given by police officers so that events can conclude safely and peacefully for everyone.
