A 35-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences arising out of an incident in which a backhoe was used in an attempt to remove an ATM vault in Plymouth, Tobago.
Sherman Irvine, of New Road, Black Rock, Tobago, appeared before Master Shabana Shah on Friday 3rd July, charged with three counts of Robbery with Violence, three counts of Malicious Damage, two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment, and one count of House Breaking and Larceny.
The charges relate to an incident which occurred at Shirvan Road on June 24, when two masked men confronted three security officers on duty at the YMCA and Beach Sports Facility, Courland, and forced them to hand over the keys to a backhoe and a company truck.
The suspects then allegedly drove to Shelbourne Street, Plymouth, where the backhoe was used in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the vault from a First Citizens ATM. The company truck used during the incident was later recovered abandoned at Adventure Trace, Plymouth. In that incident, five men attempted to steal the ATM vault. One of the men was dressed as Batman. One suspect was held the following day.
Irvine was not called upon to plead and was denied bail. The matter was adjourned to October 5 for a Status Hearing and to December 8 for a Sufficiency Hearing.
The charges were laid by PC Adams of the Tobago Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
