Britain’s new Prime Minister has reportedly instructed his Cabinet to focus on the rising cost of living. Trinidad and Tobago should adopt a similar approach.
Every ministry should be required to identify practical measures to reduce the cost of living. Food prices, utilities, transportation, housing and other everyday expenses continue to place enormous pressure on families, pensioners and small businesses.
Government’s success should not be measured only by economic statistics, but by whether citizens can afford a decent standard of living. Making the reduction of living expenses a national priority would provide meaningful relief to the population.
