Team Sunshine played Moosai’s Sports a 12-table 121 bullseyes match at its home base at the Palace in Five Rivers, Arouca, last Sunday and what a match that was! The game began half-hour late due to the late arrival of some of the Moosai’s Sports players and from the outset it was a torrid affair.
Throughout the entire first half, Moosai’s Sports had Team Sunshine playing catch-up; it was no surprise therefore that Moosai’s Sports was leading in both areas at the end of the first half – 60/50 bullseyes and 19/16 Hang Jacks.
After a meal of red beans, carrot rice, stew chicken or fish, and macaroni salad, the teams assembled to discuss their respective strategies going forward. Just as in the first half, Moosai’s Sports continued with the ten-point lead in the second half with 83/73 bullseye at one point in the game.
During the strategy session, Team Sunshine had made a vow to overcome the deficit, with the Team Captain telling supporters that, “the second half will be different”. And as it was said, so was it done!
In an unprecedented display of sheer guts and team discipline, Team Sunshine, boisterously urged on by its supporters, took the lead after the 83/73 point, after which there was no looking back.
With scores of 96/96; 110/111; 115/115; 120/120, it was nail-biting and when the pair of Lambert and Sailor Boy jumped from their table with a shout of “Bullseye!”, there was a roar of jubilation from Team Sunshine players and supporters which surely rocked the entire length and breadth of First Street and environs.
With a final score of 121/120 bullseyes and 41/37 in Hang Jacks, Team Sunshine showed that with discipline, determination and dedication to the game and the team, great things can indeed happen.
The closeness of the encounter was obvious, with several Moosai’s Sports players going away with some of the prizes that were up for the taking.
