Team Sunshine to Field of Dreams…………

KEEP DREAMING!

Last Saturday Team Sunshine made its way from its home base at Five Rivers, Arouca for a 12-table, 121 bullseyes game against the Field of Dreams team of Clifton Hill, Pt. Fortin. The two-hour long journey was quite enjoyable made more so by the fact that for the first time many of Team Sunshine’s players were travelling on the Archibald/De Leon highway to Point Fortin.

Some of those travelling in the maxi were familiar with the route when participating in Pt. Fortin’s Borough Day celebrations. However, most who had never even been to Point Fortin were pleasantly surprised at the development taking place there, especially the spanking new Pt. Fortin hospital.

Upon arrival at the venue, those who had never been there before also marvelled at the scenic location and spacious grounds overlooking the Clifton Hill beach. The area for playing was spacious and fully air-conditioned, with the tables and chairs perfect for All Fours.

Team Sunshine members were welcomed to the venue by its hostess, Lisa, who invited players to hot cups of tasty corn soup. What should have been an almost perfect afternoon and evening of All Fours was only marred by Field of Dreams itself, which was unable to field its full complement of players in time for the 2:00 pm start.

Team Sunshine graciously extended the start time to 3:30 pm with only 10 tables from Field of Dreams.

From the outset it was clear that, in spite of flashes of brilliance from two tables – Tables 8 and 10 – Field of Dreams team was no match for Team Sunshine; and in less than three hours, the first half ended with scores of 50/39 bullseyes and 14/10 hang jacks both in favour of Team Sunshine.

For the break, a simple yet tasty meal of curry chicken, curry iguana, channa and aloo, and buss-up shut was served.

The second half was no different from the first except that Team Sunshine, with two new pairs, was able to stunt the players on Tables 8 and 10 who had offered some resistance in the first half.

The final result was no surprise with 101/75 bullseyes and 31/19 hang jacks, both in favour of Team Sunshine. It was a credit to the captain of the Field of Dreams team, former national footballer Steve David, and his secretary, Lisa Ali, that the event was well- organised apart from the absence of two tables through no fault of theirs.

The game was played in a very friendly atmosphere without any dispute, and in the end, as is the norm with such friendly and uncontentious encounters, the real winner was All Fours.
