Dr Keith Rowley needs to stop the noise and deal with a simple, direct issue.
Where did the money come from to build Balisier House and to finance the Dr Eric Williams Memorial Building in Port of Spain?
That is the question. It is clear. It is reasonable. It deserves an answer.
You cannot lecture the country about standards, institutions, and conduct while refusing to give a full and transparent account of how major political infrastructure tied to the People’s National Movement was funded.
These are not small projects. These are multi million dollar undertakings. The public has a right to know who paid, how it was financed, and whether every dollar can be accounted for.
Dr Rowley is no longer in office. That makes this even more straightforward. There is no Cabinet confidentiality to hide behind. There is no executive shield. So answer the question plainly.
Instead, what the public gets are long rants, deflection, and attempts to drag the conversation into unrelated territory. That approach raises more suspicion, not less. When a leader refuses to answer direct questions about money, people will naturally ask what is being hidden.
Let us be clear. Allegations, rumours, and wild claims do not help the country. What helps the country is evidence, transparency, and documentation. If the funding was clean, then present the records. Show the financing structure.. Identify the donors. Account for every cent.
If everything was above board, then there is nothing to fear from full disclosure.
But silence and distraction will not work anymore. The population is more informed, more alert, and less willing to accept political evasion. You cannot demand credibility while avoiding accountability.
Dr Rowley and the current leadership of the PNM, including Penny Beckles, have a responsibility to clear the air. Not with speeches. Not with attacks. With facts.
