A security guard was tied up and robbed at Divali Nagar, while a man posing as a taxi driver sexually assaulted and robbed a woman. In separate incidents, three others were held in firearm seizures as police stepped up anti-crime operations across the country.
On August 6, the 47-year-old guard was attacked at the National Council of Indian Culture’s (NCIC) Divali Nagar compound in Endeavour, Chaguanas, shortly after 1.30 am.
Reports say the guard was returning to his booth after using the washroom when a man pressed a metal object against the back of his neck and ordered him inside. The suspect then tied the guard’s hands and feet with rope and zip ties before putting a plastic bag over his head.
He then hit the victim several times in the face as he demanded the keys to the compound’s gate. The victim told police he later heard a vehicle enter the compound.
The suspect escaped with the victim’s Samsung A7 cellphone, valued at $900, his wallet containing $1,500 in cash, a bank card and his national ID card.

The victim eventually freed himself around 4.30 am and ran to another security officer at Zee’s Indian Expo, who then called police.
Police searched the NCIC compound and documented several missing items, including a power saw, Hilti tool, two tool kits, two cordless drills and a chainsaw. The total value of the missing items has not yet been determined.
Hours earlier, in Cunupia, a 27-year-old man who stopped to give a stranger a lift was allegedly attacked, sexually assaulted and robbed.
The victim told police at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday along Rodney Road he was driving his car when he stopped after being flagged down by the suspect. The man got in the front passenger seat and directed the victim to Crown Trace, Enterprise.
While inside the vehicle, the victim told police the suspect placed him in a headlock and sexually assaulted him. After the assault the assailant stole the victim’s wallet with $200, his ID card, driver’s permit, bank card and NIS card, before fleeing.
The victim reported the incident to police the following day.
Meanwhile, police seized two guns, four magazines and 110 rounds of 9mm ammunition during a search of a 19-year-old businessman’s home in Westmoorings on August 6.
Western Division Task Force officers conducted the exercise between 1 am and 9 am under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026. Police said the firearms and ammunition were found during a search of the teenager’s home.
The teenager was arrested.

Officers also searched a barrel near the basketball court at Sparrow Drive, Petit Valley, where they found two plastic jars containing 148 grammes of cannabis. No one was arrested.
Later, officers searched a forested area off LP53 Cizan Trace, Blue Basin Road, Diego Martin, where they found a white crocus bag containing an unloaded shotgun. At a quarry in Wallerfield police also found another 90 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
On August 5, two supermarket security guards were among three men arrested after they were allegedly found with guns during an anti-crime exercise.
Around 3.30 pm, police officers searched a male security guard at a supermarket in La Brea and allegedly found a gun tucked into his pants. He was arrested.
Officers later searched a second security guard at a supermarket in Pepper Village, Fyzabad, and allegedly found another gun tucked into his pants too. He was also arrested.
Around 8.45 pm, police intercepted a 39-year-old motorcyclist travelling north along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. Police allegedly found a gun and a magazine containing two rounds of 9mm ammunition inside a black bag.
Investigations into all matters are ongoing.
