8 Illegal Venezuelans arrested in South

Eight Venezuelan nationals who are in the country illegally, were arrested at a house at Pond Street, La Romaine, on Monday.

Officers of the La Romaine Police Post, Task Force, and Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, conducted an exercise between 12 noon and 6 pm, on Monday, during which they proceeded to Windsor Street, where they found a bag containing 1.25 kilogrammes of cannabis.

The officers then proceeded to Pond Street, where the home of a 33-year-old man was searched. The search resulted in the discovery of one Glock pistol and an extended magazine.

The man was arrested in connection with the find.

The officers then proceeded to an apartment on the upper floor of the building, where eight immigrants who are in the country illegally, were found and detained.

The eight Venezuelans were handed over to Immigration officials. Sunshine Today was informed that the illegal immigrants were placed in detention for deportation at a later date.

In the North Central Division, police officers of the Gang and Intelligence Unit, conducted an exercise between 4 pm and 8 pm, on Monday, geared toward targeting persons of interest and locations suspected of being utilized for the concealment of illegal firearms, with the objective of disrupting organised criminal activity and enhancing public safety.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the Pine Ridge district, where they observed a male person of interest, with a black bag strapped across his chest.

As the officers approached, the man dropped the bag and made his escape.

Inside the bag, officers found one Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with two rounds of ammunition.
