Businesswoman Star Sabga, 70, is no longer under house arrest.
This was confirmed by her attorney, Faris Al Rawi SC, at an Opposition Media Conference on Thursday.
The Preventive Detention Order (PDO), served on her in July, has also been revokved, according to Al Rawi. That means all the police security at her home at Regents Towers, Westmoorings, has been removed.
Al Rawi said, “I arrived late because I was dealing with revocation of Star Sabga. She was released today.”
He declined to discuss the specifics of Sabga’s case, saying he did not intend to discuss client business at the media conference.
Sabga was detained on July 27 under a PDO issued during the current State of Emergency amid allegations of a conspiracy to assassinate senior Government officials.
She subsequently challenged her continued detention in the High Court.
In August, Justice Vigel Paul found there was insufficient evidence to justify Sabga’s continued detention and ordered her conditionally released to house arrest. The court found there was insufficient evidence that Sabga had taken steps to further the alleged conspiracy beyond an intercepted telephone conversation.
The allegations against Sabga have not been tested at trial.
Sabga nevertheless remained subject to the PDO and the conditions of her house arrest until Thursday, when the order was revoked.
The existing State of Emergency ends on September 17.
