Carnival Was Not Safe

Dear Sir/Madam

I wish to challenge those in authority who say that this was the safest Carnival in 20 years.  Such an assertion is grossly misleading, terribly insensitive and downright  political, ad nauseam.

Just for the information of the Minister, someone was stabbed to death in the celebrations and so for all of the Police presence, a citizen lost his life and the perpetrators have not been apprehended.

Moreso, it is insensitive to say something like this, when the nation is still recovering from the shocking shooting of a mother who was protecting her child, in one of the UNC’s strongholds.

In addition, there were the usual amounts of fights, injuries, petty thefts and accidents. Further, a kidnap victim is still in his captor’s hands, so the nation stands in the same peril we have been for the last decade.

So if I were the Minister, I would keep a still tongue and come back to reality as there really is nothing to cheer about or pat himself on the back.

Linda Capildeo,

St James
