Legal Minds, Culinary Skills on Display at “Lawyers Can Cook”

By Dr Jack Austin Warner

Last Sunday, the courtroom gave way to the kitchen as attorneys swapped robes for aprons in a lively and flavour-filled edition of “Lawyers Can Cook.”

The annual event, which continues to grow in popularity, brought together members of the legal fraternity for an afternoon that blended competition, camaraderie, and community spirit.

Held in a festive atmosphere, the event showcased an impressive range of culinary talent. From traditional local dishes to creative international fusions, participants demonstrated that their skills extend well beyond legal argument and into the art of cuisine.

Judges and patrons alike were treated to a rich variety of flavours, presentation styles, and inventive menus, making for a truly engaging experience.

But Lawyers Can Cook” is about more than just food. The event also serves as a platform for connection within the legal community, fostering relationships in a relaxed and informal setting.

It offers a refreshing contrast to the intensity of the courtroom, allowing attorneys, judges, legal professionals, and correspondents to engage with each other and the public in a more accessible way.

Importantly, the event also carries a charitable dimension. Proceeds and contributions are typically directed toward social causes, reinforcing the legal community’s commitment to service beyond the profession. This year’s edition continued that tradition, with strong support from both participants and attendees.

What stood out most, however, was the spirit of the occasion. There was laughter, friendly rivalry, and a genuine sense of pride in the dishes presented.

For many, it was an opportunity to showcase a different side of themselves, one rooted not in legal precision but in culinary creativity and cultural expression.

As the final dishes were judged and winners celebrated, one thing was clear: the legal profession in Trinidad and Tobago is as passionate about food as it is about the law.

“Lawyers Can Cook” once again has proved that when legal minds step into the kitchen, the results are nothing short of exceptional.
