…….Coroner’s Inquest very likely
By FRANCIS JOSEPH
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered the release of a woman who was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of businessman Steve Ghany Jr last Wednesday.
Following a meeting on Sunday morning between Homicide Bureau officers and the DPP, the DPP advised that the woman be released pending further investigations.
According to reports, unless the police come up with any new evidence, the DPP is likely to send the matter for a Coroner’s Inquest.
The woman’s attorney Prakash Ramadhar said, “She has been released on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
We want to express our gratitude to the investigators and, of course, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. We also want to establish, moving forward, what we can learn from this incident, and I hope in the near future to host a press conference to deal with the issue of domestic violence.”

Ramadhar said the woman was relieved to regain her liberty and return to her children and family. He added, “She expresses her gratitude to the many who have responded in support of her and her family. She will certainly be seeking the help required in these circumstances to overcome the trauma.”
Ghany, 37, was shot several times at his Vistabella, San Fernando, home following a heated argument with the woman. Ghany, a father of two, was involved in his family’s construction business – a business started by his late father Steve Ghany Sr.
On Wednesday morning, an argument erupted between Ghany and the woman. It is alleged that Ghany threatened to harm the woman and her two children.
During the argument, Ghany allegedly used a firearm to shoot at her, but he missed.
The woman secured another gun, which was owned by Ghany, and shot him several times. He died in the bedroom of their house.
Police responded to the shooting and seized two firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition. The woman was taken by the police to seek medical attention. The children were handed over to relatives.
Since then, the woman had been in police custody and even returned to the scene of the shooting on Friday to assist officers.
