Yet another person has gone missing at sea off Trinidad.
This is the second tragedy within days.
On July 23, a boat with 23 adults and six children, capsized off Los Iros Beach, South Trinidad. All except two persons were rescued. Edwin Parra and six year-old Brithanny Linneth Leon Palacios, drowned and their bodies were recovered.
On Friday night, another incident occurred.
A boat transporting copper illegally to Venezuela overturned in rough seas off south Trinidad late Friday night, leaving one Venezuelan man dead, one woman missing, while the third survived.
Investigators identified the deceased as Venezuelan national Julio Lopez.
The missing woman has been identified as Nikol Landaeta.
On Saturday night, members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, searched the shoreline from Icacos to Galfa Point after reports that Landaeta was missing.
The lone survivor told residents in Icacos that the three were travelling to Venezuela aboard the pirogue when it capsized. But the survivor disappeared on land before the police or Coast Guard could speak to him. Police believe that the survivor, who was in Trinidad illegally, ran because he felt he would be arrested as an illegal immigrant.
The search continues.
