……..Cops zoom in on a criminal probe
By FRANCIS JOSEPH
Five students have been identified and suspended over the brutal attack on Port-of-Spain City Corporation Alderman, Wayne Griffith, last Monday.
With the suspension comes the investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). An investigator has been appointed and very soon, he will be interviewing the five suspended students and witnesses, all students of the Tranquility Government Secondary School.
According to a release from the TTPS on Thursday, the TTPS confirmed that it has viewed a video currently circulating on social media regarding an incident involving Griffith and a group of school children in Port of Spain.
Preliminary information indicates that Griffith reportedly observed a group of students fighting along Dundonald Street, Port of Spain, and attempted to intervene. It is further alleged that Griffith was subsequently assaulted by several persons and later discovered personal items missing, such as his cell phone, wallet, and wrist watch.
As a result, an investigation has been launched into the matter, and an investigator has been officially appointed to conduct inquiries. Griffith was interviewed by police officers in relation to the incident “and continues to cooperate with investigators while currently receiving medical attention.”
The TTPS wishes to assure the public that the matter is being treated seriously and investigations are ongoing.
Griffith, 62, who is chairman of the PNM Port-of-Spain South Constituency, received several injuries, but no broken bones. He underwent a CT Scan and is recovering at home.
