By FRANCIS JOSEPH

A 44-year-old Police Constable was granted bail with surety in the sum of $350,000, when he appeared before a Master of the High Court on Monday, charged with Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm, against a male victim.

PC Kernel Dates appeared before Master Shabana Shah in the Scarborough High Court. The matter adjourned to November 3rd.

The accused was also ordered to report to the Roxborough Police Station twice a week, reside at a Pembroke address, and maintain a distance of 200 feet from the victim.

Osae Murray

Reports indicate that Osae Murray, 37, was walking along Northside Road, Blood Bay, Tobago, on June 8th, when he was approached by a man known to him, who was armed with a gun. He alleged that the man proceeded to deal him several blows to the upper part of his body with his hands and the weapon.

Murray reportedly picked up a piece of bamboo and raised it to strike the assailant, who pointed the firearm in his direction and shot him in the abdomen. He was taken to the Roxborough Hospital and later transferred to the Scarborough General Hospital.

Investigations into the incident resulted in the arrest of one male suspect.

PC Dates was charged with Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm, on Sunday 12th July, following advice received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The charges followed an investigation into the shooting, which left Murray with extensive internal injuries.

According to his relatives, doctors were forced to remove one of his kidneys, while his liver and remaining kidney were also damaged.

Investigations were conducted and the charge was laid by W/ASP (Ag.) Alicia Piggott.
