Dominic and wife got released

Dominic Hadeed and Wife Heading Home Today

By FRANCIS JOSEPH

After spending 29 days in custody, businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve, are leaving the Golden Grove State Prison, Arouca, on Thursday afternoon.

The decision to release the couple came from Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, who revoked the Preventive Detention Orders on Thursday afternoon.

It came as a surprise to many, even the attorneys that the couple who have been battling for their release as far as the Privy Council in London, got a reprieve from the State and will be heading to their home at 23 Pine Avenue, Bayshore.

In the case of Dominic Hadeed, his failing health was a deciding factor.

Minister Roger Alexander, in a media release, advised that he has revoked the Preventive Detention Orders (PDO) issued in respect of Dominic Hadeed and Genevievere Hadeed.

The release stated, “The decision follows a comprehensive review of all relevant legal, medical and public interest considerations, including the recommendation of the Constitution Review Tribunal and ongoing assessments conducted under the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026.

“While the Preventive Detention Orders have been revoked, the criminal investigation into the alleged plot to assassinate the Prime Minister and senior members of Government remains active. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, together with local and international law enforcement partners, continues its investigations, and appropriate measures remain in place to safeguard public safety.

“The Ministry remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting constitutional rights, and ensuring the security of all citizens,” the statement added.

The Hadeeds were arrested at their home at Pine Avenue, Bayshore, on the morning of June 24. They were taken to police stations at Woodbrook and Carenage. Three days later, they were served with a PDO in which allegations were made against them.

That was the start of a several matters filed in the court by their attorneys, the most important being an application for habeas corpus seeking their release. Eventually, they were sent to the Golden Grove State Prison, Arouca.

Cases of judicial review and constitutional challenges were also filed in the court. On Thursday, a message from the Registrar of the Privy Council said it was unlikely that their appeal on the stay for their release will be heard before October (That is when the new term of the British Courts reopen).

On Thursday, the Court of Appeal also ruled that Hadeeds’ constitutional challenge be expedited. That matter comes up on Friday before Justice Vigel Paul at the Hall of Justice.

The couple has not been charged with any offences.
