A Sangre Grande man was granted bail with surety in the sum of $100,000, after he appeared before the High Court, charged with Misbehaviour in Public Office and firearm related offences, arising out of an investigation into a missing TTPS firearm at the Mayaro Police Station, in July 2026.
He is the second person to be charged in this matter.
Azam Ali, of Sangre Grande, was charged with Misbehaviour in Public Office, Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition, when he appeared before Master Raydon Dalrymple-Watts, at the South High Court, on Monday.
The accused was not called upon to plead and was granted bail with the conditions that he is:
-to reside at his residence in Sangre Grande until determination of the matter,
-to submit his passport to the Registrar within two days of securing bail, and,
-to not be permitted to obtain travelling documents.
The Status Hearing is scheduled for October 29.
Reports indicate that following internal checks at the Mayaro Police Station on July 29th, 2026, a TTPS firearm and a quantity of ammunition were discovered missing.
An internal investigation was immediately launched which led to the recovery of the missing firearm, magazine and ammunition.
A 23-year-old male Police Constable, PC Nicholas Ramnarine, with nine months’ service was detained.
He appeared before the South Masters’ Court, on August 3 charged with Misbehaviour in Public Office. He was granted $200,000 bail.
The second suspect was arrested on August 7 and placed on a Preventative Detention Order.
The charges followed advice received from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Anju Bhola.
