……”2 colleagues arrested – 3 vehicles seized”
By FRANCIS JOSEPH
Last Saturday night was a normal one for acting Corporal Anusha Eversley, 42, at the San Fernando Municipal Police Headquarters.
Eversley, with 19 years’ service, was in charge of the night shift and mingled with her colleagues until 11 pm when she retired to bed.
But she did not know what was in store for her. Her colleagues had other ideas – to steal guns and ammunition from the Strong Room. Murder was not part of the plan. But these colleagues did not anticipate that CCTV footage would take their wickets.
So far, investigators have detained two members of the Municipal Police Unit.
CCTV footage showed one of these officers, identified as PC R, closing the gate to the police station in the early hours of Sunday morning. Both he and PC C were off-duty at the time they were captured on CCTV footage entering the station compound.
Moments later, both men covered several CCTV cameras inside and outside the station with duct tape, a senior officer told Sunshine Today.
Prior to their arrival, two other officers who had returned from an escort duty reportedly retired to the dormitory upstairs after lodging their weapons with Eversley.
Investigators believe the two officers, R and C arrived sometime later, triggering the chain of events. Investigators believe that Eversley confronted the officers and she was killed. She was found dressed only in a bra and a wound to the neck.
After Eversley was killed, these two officers reportedly loaded two cars with the 62 guns and 4,000 rounds of ammunition. A vehicle belonging to the Municipal Police, was used to escort the two vehicles out of San Fernando.
It was not until 4.40 am on Sunday that Eversley’s body was discovered. She was already dead. It was also discovered that the guns and ammunition were missing.
Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, arrived on the scene and coordinated a series of raids. PC C was arrested at his home at Cedar Hill, Claxton Bay, while PC R was detained in Princes Town. The search is on for other persons in what was described as a well-coordinated exercise.
Police seized two private vehicles and a van belonging to the Municipal for testing.
