It was the most brazen killing in broad daylight in Port-of-Spain.
According to police reports, around 3.23 pm on June 17, Marlon Hamlyn, 51, of Elva Avenue, Greendale Park, Arima, was seated in the rear left passenger seat of motor vehicle registration HDC 4618, which was parked along Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, when he was approached by a man armed with a firearm.
The armed man shot Hamlyn, a juice maker, several times before fleeing the scene on foot in a southerly direction along Charlotte Street. Hamlyn died on the spot.
Homicide Bureau officers visited the scene and obtained CCTV video footage of the shooting. After inquiries were conducted, Police detained one suspect.
As a result, Dillon Irvin, 50, of Annisette Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain, was charged with the offences of Murder, Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition, following legal advice received from Mrs. Joan Honore-Paul, Specialist Advisor to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Irvin will appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday. The investigation was spearheaded by WPC Sargeant.
