One week ago, Deshawn Manson walked out of the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre at Santa Rosa. He had been detained during the State of Emergency under a Preventive Detention Order (PDO)
On Sunday night, Manson, 27, alias “DeeDee” was shot and killed on George Street, Port-of-Spain.
Manson was found dead near the Health Centre around 10.20 pm. Investigators said police officers were on patrol in the area when residents alerted them to a man’s body.
Manson was identified by a relative. Investigators found several spent 9 mm shells at the scene. Officers from the Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations. Manson was detained under a Preventive Detention Order (PDO) during the State of Emergency.
According to reports, investigators identified Manson as a member of a Gang, which they described as an organised criminal group operating in Laventille and Port of Spain.
The PDO alleged that the group was involved in murders, armed robberies, narcotics trafficking and firearm distribution. Authorities also alleged that the group had access to high-powered weapons and was involved in an ongoing violent conflict with rival groups, including plans for retaliatory shootings in public spaces.
From all reports, Manson was never charged with any gang-related offences during the State of Emergency.
Police tried to question people who were present at George Street on Sunday night. But they all declined to be recorded, saying “we ain’t see nothing.”
Police believe that Manson’s past caught up with him, that is why he was killed.
