It was a like a scene out of a movie. With CCTV footage available, one would swear they would be watching a shootout on television in the comfort of their home.
But no! This was real. It was at Calvary Hill, Arima, at 4.26 am on Sunday.
Two men on their way home in a vehicle were blocked by occupants of another vehicle. While travelling along Calvary Hill, their car was blocked. A gunman seated in the left front passenger seat emerged and started firing. During the incident, he fell out of the car and onto the road.
But that did not deter him. He got up and chased after the other car which was reversing. More shots were fired and in the end, two men were dead.
The dead were identified as Ishmael Vincent, alias “Yam Yam”, 38, of Calvary Hill, and Reon Thomas, alias “Rambo”, 27, of Thompson Lane, Arima. The shooter escaped.
Residents alerted the police who later arrived and found the two men dead. Their bodies were taken to the Forensic Science Centre for post-mortems this coming week.
MURDER ON DUNCAN STREET
Ricardo Flatts, 65, was another murder victim over the past 48 hours.
He was found critically injured at a Duncan Street HDC apartment building on Friday.
Flatts, also known as “Half Breed”, was discovered shortly after 1 p.m by a woman who alerted a nearby worker that an injured man was at the building.
Emergency medical assistance was called, and Flatts was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:35 p.m.
Police are treating the death as a suspected homicide, with investigators now working to determine exactly how Flatts sustained his injuries.
Police believe Flatts was beaten to death. Investigations are continuing.
MISSING WOMAN FOUND IN FORESTED AREA
The body of a 73-year-old woman who was reported missing last week was found in a forested area in Guaico, Tamana.
The woman has been identified as Linda Alexander, of Guaico, Tamana.
Her body was discovered on Saturday by the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Commander Shamsudeen Ayube.
According to the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, Alexander left her home on August 3, telling her daughter that she was going to collect a hamper.
Her family said she would also regularly visit churches and other locations in and around the area.
Eyewitnesses reportedly saw Alexander on Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in front of Scotia Bank in Sangre Grande. Another person reportedly saw her walking towards Market Street, Sangre Grande.
Search efforts were carried out in several areas, including Sangre Grande, Guaico, Mayaro and Guayaguayare.
On Saturday, search teams located Alexander’s body down a precipice behind her home, in a muddy river within a forested area.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and there is currently no word on the cause of death. Police are working on a theory that Alexander could have been killed and her body dumped.
