Twenty-five illegal immigrants were detained during an operation conducted by the Coastal and Air Support Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service along the western peninsula of Trinidad on Tuesday 20th.
Around 11:30 p.m., officers of the Coastal and Air Support Unit, with the assistance of officers from the Western Division, conducted an Operation BLAST (Bringing Land, Air and Sea Together) exercise under the direction of ACP Tactical Support.
During the exercise, officers used drone technology to conduct extensive searches along coastal and forested areas. They subsequently stopped and searched a vessel on which 25 individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants were found. The individuals were detained, and the vessel was seized and secured.
The exercise was sanctioned by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Suzette Martin, coordinated by ACP Tactical Support Collis Hazel, and supervised by ASP Ronny Rampallard and Inspector Fabian Brisbane.
Investigations are ongoing, with support from the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and the Immigration Division.
