Six fishermen, including four Trinidadians, were found alive on Tuesday night.
Around 9 pm on Tuesday, the Maritime Operations Centre received a report from the crew of the MV Marvel Kite which was en route to the United States. The crew reported that while they were 349 nautical miles east of Galeota, they observed that the missing fishing vessel, the St Vincent VII, appeared to be in distress.
The crew approached the St Vincent VII and observed six men on board, matching the description of the six missing persons. The six fishermen were rescued and according to the crew of the MV Marvel Kite, they appeared to be in good health, although dehydrated.
The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard was contacted and the six fishermen will be received sometime on Wednesday and brought to shore. After they are brought to shore, they will be taken for medical attention.
The persons on board the St Vincent VII were four Trinidadians, the Guyanese captain and a national of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Vincent VII departed Chaguaramas on July 6 and was later reported to have caught fire in waters in the French Guiana-Suriname region on July 13.
Among those missing were Trinidadian fisherman Shannon Mohammed, crew members Kevin “Dougla” Fournillio, crew members identified only as Anthony and Alex. The vessel’s captain, Eshwar “Shawnee” Persaud, is Guyanese, while another crew member is a Vincentian national believed to have joined the vessel in St Vincent.
