……Man kills girlfriend, then hangs himself

A toxic relationship ended in a murder-suicide after the bodies of a man and woman were found in the bedroom of a house at Sundarsingh Trace, Penal, on Friday evening.
The woman was identified as Giselle Ougrah, aka “Precious,” 23, and the man as Stefon Khandan, 26. Ougrah, a former student of St Stephen’s College, Princes Town, was a hairdresser, and operated at a popular barbershop on Market Street, Princes Town.
Sunshine Today was unable to verify what job Khandan had. According to police reports, Ougrah was last seen by family members after she left to visit Khandan at his Penal apartment on Wednesday.
She never returned home. Family members became worried when they could not reach her by her cell phone. They also tried calling Khandan, but there was no answer. So on Friday, Ougrah’s brother-in-law decided to go to the Penal apartment to look for her.
On arrival, the brother-in-law found her body with multiple stab wounds. She was lying on a bed. In the same area, he found Khandan hanging by a rope. They were both dead.
The rope used by Khandan to hang himself was taken from the hammock outside of the apartment. Family members said Ougrah and Khandan had been in a relationship for about one year.
One member of her family told Sunshine Today, that the couple had a toxic relationship. “They were always quarrelling…breaking up and getting back together. We have been telling her to break it off because the relationship was going no where. We never anticipated that it would reach to a murder and a suicide.”
The family member continued, “We became nervous when Giselle did not return home by Thursday. We could not think properly when she did not answer our calls. We were asked if we are surprised at what happened, I really cannot say. Murder was the last thing on our mind. We just wanted her out of that relationship, but she kept going back.”
Homicide Bureau officers as well as officers from the Penal Police Station visited the scene and ordered the removal of the bodies to the Forensic Science Centre for autopsies. Investigators were unable to pinpoint exactly when the murder-suicide took place.
News spread quickly throughout the community as residents gathered to observe what was happening.
