Simple things that can get a government elected over and over again

Questions over the decades.

There are some questions that ordinary people find easy to answer yet governments over the decades find exceedingly difficult.  These transcend politics and race.  Let us visit them again.

Police patrols.  Why is it so difficult to implement structured police patrols?  Instead of the answer to a reported crime being we have no car in the station, it should be car one or two is in that area and would respond immediately.

Water distribution.  Why is it so difficult for WASA to supply the water and the communities look after its distribution?  They can use a combination of gravity and pumps to ensure every community has a reliable water supply; they can repair the roads after repairs and employ people within the community.  This would end the back-and-forth allegations of corruption in WASA.

Extended sources of Foreign Exchange.  Why is tourism and agriculture not a major area for investment?  With some of the best beaches, under water sites, mountains, hiking trails, rivers, swamps, caves, bird watching facilities and cultural activities in the western world, why is this area not given priority?  Why with thousands of acres of very fertile lands and six months of heavy rainfall, is there not investment in agriculture for food security and export.  The global demand for cocoa, coffee, coconuts, and exotic fruits can easily lead to Trinidad & Tobago earning foreign exchange in food production rather than relying so heavily on imported food.

Road Repairs.  Why is repairing the roads of Trinidad & Tobago such a challenging task?  There are more than adequate contractors and equipment, gravel and bitumen, concrete, and engineers.  Yet landslides are left unattended, bridges are in states of disrepair and there are potholes on almost every road.  There is an unfinished bridge repair that is ongoing for over five years in Barrackpore.  There is still the use of a temporary bridge and one way traffic in the heart of Barrackpore.  The other similar bridge repair was completed years ago. Why?

These simple things are what the population look at and what can keep people voting for a government election after election.  Not allegations and counter allegations of corruption but the ability to get simple things done.

God Bless Our Nation.
