Team Sunshine suffers defeat at the hands of FairPlay
Two weekends ago, Team Sunshine delivered an inept performance in Chaguanas against Passage to Asia, losing 72/121 bullseyes in a match in which they were thoroughly outplayed. At the time, many believed the defeat was merely an aberration.
However, last Saturday’s home game at the Palace proved otherwise.
Team Sunshine entered the match with every advantage. Playing on home turf, the team had its full complement of players, and members arrived early for their pre-match team talk. In contrast, their opponents, FairPlay from Claxton Bay, arrived somewhat late and were still scrambling to complete their team mere minutes before the official 2 p.m. start of the 12-table, 121-bullseye contest.

Although Team Sunshine lost the toss for a second consecutive week, players believed that would have been the only setback that they would have suffered against FairPlay. That confidence grew stronger after the first-half scores favoured Team Sunshine, with a 60/48 lead in bullseyes and a narrow 24/23 advantage in hang jacks.
At the halftime break, players and supporters enjoyed a menu of pigeon peas, fried rice, macaroni salad, stew fish, stew chicken, and fresh green salad. The meal from Keisha’s Kitchen received high praise from everyone in attendance.

As fate would have it, however, that was the only praise Team Sunshine would either give or receive for the remainder of the evening. How a team that led comfortably in the first half could have been so thoroughly outplayed in the second half to eventually lose 109/121 bullseyes and 40/49 hang jacks will remain a topic of discussion among Team Sunshine’s players for a long time to come.
Some members sought solace in the fact that, in the previous four meetings between the two teams, Team Sunshine had won the first encounter before losing the next three. However, that statistic provided little comfort to the majority of Team Sunshine’s players and supporters, and Team Sunshine will have to engage in some serious introspection before its next outing.

Team Sunshine’s next match is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, in La Horquetta against Avengers in another 12-table, 121-bullseye event.
