…….Delay in taking cops to find Angelo’s body
BY FRANCIS JOSEPH
It took nine days for a breakthrough to happen. One of the suspects in police custody reportedly confessed to police on Wednesday. But as he was about to take investigators to the spot where he disposed of the little body of Angelo Tobias, he complained of feeling unwell.
The suspect was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for medical attention. At the hospital, “he was giving trouble”, according to investigators. As a result, the planned visit to the site where he disposed of the body, was temporarily shelved.
The suspect was one of seven persons who were kept in custody at different police stations. Sources told Sunshine Today that the suspect who has been in custody since Friday, finally broke down and told investigators that he strangled Angelo before dumping the body in the sea.
Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Tobago Division, Rishi Singh, indicated that investigators were continuing to work diligently and professionally towards achieving a clear and definitive outcome in this matter.
“The TTPS emphasizes that this remains a sensitive and ongoing investigation, with all inquiries being conducted professionally, fairly, and with full respect for the constitutional rights of all parties.”
Before the confession, police officers conducted searches across several areas of Tobago, including Pig Farm Road, Mt. St. George dump and Dam Road.
Investigators had earlier focused major search efforts around Pig Farm Road, where Miller reportedly owns a cassava field. Hunters Search and Rescue Team members, led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, were also actively involved in the operation, responding to numerous public tips and conducting difficult searches in heavily forested areas and precipices.
The suspect’s cousin, who is also in custody, admitted to having knowledge of what had happened to Angelo. He was the one who claimed he saw small man Angelo walking towards the sea.
The break for the police came when they viewed CCTV footage showing that Angelo’s mother Khalifa Tobias and her boyfriend, Shannon Miller, were walking on the Goodwood Main Road – the same time they say they were at home when they missed Angelo.
