Diego Martin: Where Is Our Pride?

The state of Diego Martin is becoming an embarrassment. Bush is overgrowing alongside roads and highways, pavements are deteriorating, and Westvale Savannah is being swallowed by overgrown grass and trees.

Are we so accustomed to neglect that we no longer see anything wrong with our surroundings? Who is responsible for maintenance, and why must residents tolerate this state of affairs?

Clean, well-maintained roads, pavements and public spaces are not luxuries. They are essential to public safety, community pride and the image of our country.

The relevant authorities must stop passing the buck and start doing the work for which taxpayers pay.

Where is our pride? Or have we become so comfortable with neglect that we simply accept it?

Diego Martin deserves better. So does Trinidad and Tobago.

Action is needed now.
