TV6 continues to repeatedly broadcast the disturbing video of bandits shooting up a place, including before its 7 PM news. I have complained about this before, but apparently nobody is listening.
What exactly is the public interest in repeatedly showing criminals firing guns?
Every time that footage is broadcast, it reinforces the international image of Trinidad and Tobago as a country plagued by violence and lawlessness.
We are begging investors to bring their money here while our own television stations repeatedly put our worst images on display.
INVESTORS DO NOT INVEST WHERE THEY SEE FEAR, CHAOS AND CRIMINALS DOMINATING THE HEADLINES.
Yes, the public has a right to know about crime. But responsible journalism does not require repeatedly broadcasting footage that sensationalises violence.
TV6 should ask itself whether it is informing the public, or inadvertently helping to market Trinidad and Tobago as a dangerous place to do business.
CRIME IS ALREADY HURTING THIS COUNTRY. OUR MEDIA SHOULD NOT BE HELPING IT HURT US EVEN MORE.
