Times are hard

“When times were good, Trinidad and Tobago was like a man with a good-paying job in oil and gas. Instead of saving enough for the future, he spent heavily, borrowed money, and sometimes wasted money on things he did not need.

Now the salary is shrinking, the bills are getting bigger, and the loans still have to be paid. The result is debt, stress, and fewer opportunities for the family. A country can face the same problem.

As oil and gas revenues decline, we cannot continue spending as if the boom years still exist. Unless we save, diversify the economy, and manage money wisely, the next generation will inherit the debt instead of the wealth.”

For ordinary citizens, the message is simple: you cannot spend yesterday’s oil money tomorrow. The sooner the country understands that, the better prepared we will be for the future.
