A man who was shooting indiscriminately in the air, ended up killing an innocent woman.
The dead woman was identified as Mirissia Weekes, 49, of 213A Dundonald Hill, St James.
According to reports, at around 3.10 p.m. on Friday, police were alerted to a shooting in progress along Dundonald Hill, St James, in the vicinity of Fort Dundonald Villas.
Officers responded to the incident and were led to a pathway, believed to be the scene of the crime. The area was cordoned off and the scene was processed.
Six spent shells and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Police revealed that the suspect, a 37-year-old known as “Mannie”, was shooting in the direction of passersby.
Weekes was shot in the head and transported by a neighbour to the St James Medical Complex.
She was later transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital where she died at around 5.45 p.m.
The shooter was subsequently arrested. However, police did not initially recover the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Investigators later learnt that the suspect had handed the weapon to a cousin, who concealed it.
The cousin was later arrested and police eventually recovered the firearm.
The two suspects were then taken to the St James Police Station.
PC Hosein is continuing investigations.
An autopsy will be performed at the Forensic Sciences Centre on Tuesday.
