Another Loss for Team Sunshine …….
Last Sunday, Team Sunshine played an 11-table, 111 bullseyes game to Merry Men of Warrenville at the spacious, air-conditioned Warrenville Community Centre. This game was the decider and critical for both teams since Team Sunshine had won the first game while Merry Men had won the second.
Both teams were keen to show what each could give and all players were raring to go, eagerly anticipating the 2:00 pm start. Before kicking the first card, a one-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the recent death of a member of the Merry Men team.
The first half saw both teams battling for the lead, neither giving an inch. Merry Men going ahead, then Team Sunshine and so it went throughout the with leadership alternating between the two teams until the end which ended in 55/50 bullseyes and 25/19 hang jacks, both in favour of Merry Men.
After what was considered an intense first half, the break was most welcome; and the meal of buss-up shut; stew chicken; curry chicken; and salad, everything served in more than adequate portions; and delicious to boot, was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Following the meal, team members on both sides assembled to discuss their respective strategies.
The second half was a repeat of the first half, except with the Merry Men team being in the lead more often than not. It was therefore no surprise that the Merry Men emerged victorious in both the bullseyes and hang jacks – 111/92 and 44/34 respectively.
As always with the Merry Men, the game was played in a true spirit of conviviality and friendship, with no disputes to resolve. Team Sunshine extends its appreciation for an evening well-spent; with congratulations to the Merry Men for their winning performance.
Special thanks are extended to Kamal Rattan, Merry Men’s captain and his son, Junior, both of whom were exemplary hosts, organising another impressive event. Of course, most of the prizes were won by the Merry Men team, with the pairs of Bob & Emrit and Cheryl T & Orson of Team Sunshine going away with two of the prizes up for grabs.
