Coast Guard recovers fisherman’s body
BY FRANCIS JOSEPH
The body of a fisherman who vanished during a fishing trip, has been found after days of searching off the north-western coast.
Anton Osmond, 47, of Beetham Gardens, was reported missing after leaving home around 7 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, for a routine fishing trip to Alcan Bay. According to relatives, he never returned, and efforts to contact him by phone proved unsuccessful.

His mother, Catherine Osmond, reported him missing the following day, prompting a search by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.
During the search, Coast Guard officers located Osmond’s boat adrift and empty at sea, with no sign of the fisherman.
On Monday, March 23, the Maritime Operations Coordination Centre (MOCC) received reports of a body seen floating in waters off Five Islands. A vessel was immediately dispatched, and a recovery operation was conducted around 5:43 p.m.
The body was that of Osmond. The matter has since been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigations.
The TTCG, in a media release dated March 24, extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and thanked the public for its cooperation.
