Three men were arrested and three stolen vehicles, including two luxury cars, were recovered in a yard in Cunupia on Wednesday.
The three vehicles were carrying false number plates and investigators suspect they were being used to commit offences, including robbery and home invasions.
Between 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, officers of the Home Invasion Team, Multi-Operational Police Service (MOPS), and the Anti-Extortion Unit, conducted an intelligence-led exercise in the Central Division.
Acting on information relating to firearms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles, officers proceeded to an address along Chin Chin Road, Cunupia. The officers met two 26-year-olds of the same address, and a 28-year-old man of Cuthbert Circular Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin, and informed them of their intention to conduct a search.
A comprehensive search of the premises was conducted. However, no illegal firearms were found. Police then noticed three vehicles on the property and informed the occupants of their intention to inspect them. The officers then sought to verify the registration plates of a black BMW, a red BMW, and a white Nissan Sylphy through the South and Central Operations Centre.
Checks revealed that the registration plates did not correspond with the vehicles to which they were affixed. In other words – false number plates.
Based on these findings, officers had reasonable cause to suspect that the vehicles were stolen and possibly being used in the commission of criminal offences.
The three men were arrested, and the vehicles were seized and conveyed to the Cunupia Police Station pending further investigations.
The exercise was coordinated by ACP Criminal Division, Richard Smith, and Acting ASP St. Clair, with field supervision provided by Ag Sgt Singh.
